WhatsApp doesn't charge per message — it charges per 24-hour conversation. This article breaks down exactly how that works.
What is a conversation?
A conversation = the 24-hour window starting from the first message you send a customer. All messages exchanged inside that window are bundled into one billable conversation.
Example: If you send a marketing template at 10 AM, you can send 50 follow-ups, get 20 replies, and send 10 more templates — all by 10 AM the next day — and it counts as one billable conversation.
The 4 categories and their rates (India-domestic)
Marketing — ₹0.98/message (promotions, offers, broadcasts)
Utility — ₹0.17/message (order updates, alerts, reminders)
Authentication — ₹0.17/message (login codes, password reset OTPs)
Service — free (any conversation a customer initiated within the last 24 hrs)
How conversations get categorised
When you submit a template to Meta, you pick a category. The conversation inherits that template's category.
If a customer replies and you send a non-template message within 24 hours of their reply, that's a Service conversation — free.
Estimating your monthly cost
Use the calculator on our pricing page (sendvise.in/pricing). Input your expected monthly volumes per category and get a real-time estimate.
Rough rule: a 50,000-conversation/month brand spends ~₹15,000–25,000 on Meta conversation fees, depending on the category mix.
Sendvise's role
You pay Sendvise a platform fee (your plan's monthly cost) plus per-message charges at Sendvise's published Customer Messaging Rates above. Per-message billing follows Meta's 1 July 2025 model. Meta base rates and Sendvise service rates may differ and are subject to change.
